Suede Band Release New Single Album, 15 AGAIN

Suede Band – Earlier this past August, British rock band Suede shared a powerful new single titled 15 Again. The single, which was officially released on August 3, 2022, is taken from their latest studio album, Autofiction.

Lead singer Brett Anderson described the single 15 Again as a song about falling in love with life for the first time. The song follows Suede’s previous single, She Stil Leads Me On, which became the first taster for Suede’s ninth studio album. The Autofiction album itself will be released on September 16, 2022, later via BMG.

The single 15 Again comes with a bit of originality, but after giving it a unique shot of rock music from the 1990s generation. Suede Band has nothing to prove. Two pieces from Autofiction’s new album released to date bring Brett Anderson’s absorbing vocals into a new channel of classic indie rock that will no doubt bring smiles to faces at the upcoming live shows.

In a recent press statement, Suede, with the current lineup of Anderson, Mat Osman, Simon Gilbert, Richard Oakes, and Neil Codling, has “backed to basics” for Autofiction. The group rented “a rehearsal studio in deserted King’s Cross to collect keys, install their own equipment, set up and start playing” before finishing up at London’s Konk Studios.

When discussing the Autofiction album, vocalist Brett Anderson said: “Autofiction is our punk record. No whistles and bells. It was just the five of us in a room with all the distractions and chaos exposed; the band itself is exposed in all their major chaos… Autofiction has a natural freshness, that’s where we want to be.”

While bass player Mat Osman added: “When we were rehearsing and writing this record, it was purely physical. The thing on which you depend for dear life.”

At the end of May, Suede released their first single for the Autofiction album, entitled She Still Leads Me On. When it was released on May 23, 2022, Suede also provided details regarding the new Autofiction album.

After announcing their new album and sharing the single yesterday, Suede then debuted the song on a live show in Brussels which was also broadcast live online.

In contrast to Suede’s recent ambitious and expansive trilogy of albums—Bloodsports (2013), Night Thoughts (2016), and The Blue Hour (2018)—Autofiction sees the band consciously seeking a stripped-down sound, as Brett Anderson describes it.

“Every record is a reaction to the last recording to some extent. You don’t want to keep going in the same direction. I wanted to go back and make something that felt a little rawer, a little angrier, a little more sinister. Autofiction is our punk record, and we’re very proud of that,” Anderson told NME just before the band took to the stage in Brussels, Belgium.

He continued: “When a band develops, you look for new ways to keep yourself energized. Audiences are not stupid, they can see through things. Once you get bored with what you are doing, the audience gets bored too. You also have to find a different definition of what makes your band a band without self-parody or drifting into pastiche. It’s a delicate balancing act.”

In tone, Brett Anderson says that She Still Leads Me On represents the midpoint in terms of the emotional range of the other albums.

“If you have a call that goes from mellow to angry, it’s in the middle. Sometimes you guys write a song and it just seems to sum up the whole record. It just sounds really good! fundamental,” he said.

The single is about Anderson’s mother, whose death in 1989 when Anderson was in her early 20s, devastated her until she couldn’t attend his funeral.

“A lot of notes about my distractions, my distractions, my mistakes. A lot of dredging up the past, and talking about my mom in one of the songs is me digging into those thoughts. This album is me trying to talk honestly about myself as a man. “I’m in my 50s. I’m not trying to pretend I’m in my 20s anymore, I’m trying to think about the reality of the bullshit you have to deal with in your head,” he said.
