The Murder Capital Band Share New Music Video “Ethel”
The Murder Capital band, an Irish post-punk unit has released a single titled Ethel. The single is the band’s third single from The Murder Capital’s upcoming second album, Gigi’s Recovery, which will be released in January 2023. This third single was also released with a music video.
The Irish quintet previously returned this summer with Only Good Things and followed that up with A Thousand Lives last September. Now, it’s Ethel’s turn to present the group at their most important moments, filled with a surreal video directed by Maxim Kelly.
The director said of Ethel’s music video, “Originally I thought Ethel should be the main character and do the dance at the end, and I always had this image from the French film My American Uncle, like a little girl standing at a table.”
He continued, “Originally I had that image in my head for the rap music video, but it didn’t really make sense for the song. more interesting.”
Meanwhile, Gigi’s Recovery album from The Murder Capital will be officially released on January 20, 2023, and contains 12 really exciting tracks. The Murder Capital will also be embarking on its tour in February 2023. Check out the tracklist for their latest album below:

This past July—coinciding with summer—The Murder Capital shared their bright first single entitled Only Good Things. This single was officially launched on July 20, 2022.
The single is described as a bright and radiant love song and the first taster of The Murder Capital’s forthcoming new music. The band has said it represents an interesting “evolution” of their sound.
Regarding the new single, frontman James McGovern at the time said, “This song has for us been an exciting evolution for the band. Very sunny. Very colorful. It’s part of the narrative of the whole record that we feel reaches a place of real inner peace, inner peace but at its heart, it’s a love song.
“You get a song like this when the protagonist in this song is simply asking—not begging—only willing to ask their partner to put away their nagging thoughts, the devil on their shoulders, and be completely vulnerable,” he continued.
He added that they were really excited to go to a place like this because maybe it wasn’t what they expected. This song really stood out to them during the making of this record and it’s more about the friends that are still here and celebrating that connection, that relationship and not being afraid to live on through many seasons.
The single Only Good Things came onto the record as the sonic and lyrical narrative found new exhilaration.
Behind that, NME once made a review for The Murder Capital’s 2019 debut album titled When I Have Fears. In the review, NME wrote, “The Murder Capital arrives as the latest in a new line of hungry Irish rock bands that are giving the country—and its capital Dublin in particular—a newfound reputation as a hotbed of ferocious guitar music. The band’s debut single, Feeling Fades, was released earlier in the year which saw them peddling brash post-punk similarities to their up-and-coming contemporaries, Fontaines D.C.
“On the debut album When I Have Fears, however, it proves to be just one piece in the band’s puzzle, fitting into a record that is rich, emotional, and immense in scope,” the review continued.

The Murder Capital is a post-punk band based in Dublin, Ireland. The band consists of James McGovern (vocals), Damien Tuit (guitar), Cathal Roper (guitar), Gabriel Pascal Blake (bass), and Diarmuid Brennan (drums). The band hails from various parts of Ireland but formed in Dublin in 2018.
The band began performing in 2015 and founded their own label Human Season Records in 2018, before releasing their first single in 2019. In August 2019, The Murder Capital released its debut studio album, When I Have Fears, which was produced by Flood. and received widespread critical acclaim. In the fall of 2019, the band undertook a sold-out tour of the UK and Europe to promote the album.
The band has been actively compared to several post-punk and art-punk bands that emerged from the UK in the late 2010s such as Idles, Slaves, Shame, and fellow Irish band Fontaines D.C., mainly as a result of touring with them.
