Laney Amplification has indeed proven his obsession to find the best guitar tone. One of the most popular products is the Country Customs Monolith distortion pedal, the newest release. This release is a fork of Laney Amplification’s Black Country Customs offshoot.
This pedal is considered a versatile distortion pedal offering a wide range of sounds from classic rock overdrive to some very heavy ‘British’ tones. So it’s like having 3 distortion pedals in one pedal. With dimensions (H x W x D): 58mm x 74mm x 121mm and weighing less than half a kilogram, I think this pedal is light enough to be carried anywhere or be part of your pedal chain. In terms of construction, this pedal is made of solid metal with a design that I think is classy.
Basically, the Monolith is like a pedal that will bring nostalgia to classic distortion pedals. You will have four controls including distortion, volume, range, and tone.
In addition, with the three-way switch, you can select three very different modes. The top position (the D1-led is orange) produces very dense, thick, distortion similar to the excellent Boss DS-1. In this mode, the frequency response is fairly even, with no heavy emphasis on any parts, and can even come close to a muff sound.

Then, when you move the switch to a lower position (the D2- led is blue), the tone becomes more Plexi-like. The level gain remains above normal, but the response is much more dynamic, in contrast to the compressed tones of the previous mode. My favorite mode out of the three is the “OD” mode (purple led) which is in the middle. This mode sounds like a tube screamer, great for boosting sound levels or coloring in the guitar tones of your amp.
This pedal is also equipped with a circuit buffer to correct “tone loss”. This pedal’s buffer design maintains signal quality and other added benefits such as low impedance which will reduce the anxiety of losing your guitar signal when you need long cables on stage.
