Dark Matter Pedal Distortion effect from TC Electronic not only because of its specialist product demos on youtube, but if you look at the price of around 800 thousand it seems very worth the quality.
In this review, I will talk about what I like and don’t like about this pedal, at least to consider if you are planning to buy a distortion pedal in the near future. Like all pedals, Dark Matter has its own character and may not be suitable for all guitarists.
Construction and Control of Dark Matter Pedal
The four simple controls and sound switches in this effect are all you need to shape your individual sound. The first thing I noticed was the sturdy construction this is a sturdy little unit with quality switches and knobs.
There are no cheap plastic or flimsy components in this unit and the pedals are just the right weight. The case is made of metal with four small rubber feet on the bottom and a 9-volt battery compartment at the bottom that can be opened with a coin. There’s also a jack on the front for connecting an adapter if you need one.
The controls on this distortion pedal are pretty simple: Gain, Level, Bass, and Treble, all of which include a Voice switch, which TC Electronic says can take sounds from vintage to modern. These pedals not only have a cool design, but they also seem quite durable.

In my opinion, dark matter is a fairly versatile pedal. The advantage is that multiple pedals offer a single distortion sound. But with this one it feels a little different, something like a tube amp, the character changes a bit when you set the Gain button past 12 o’clock. In my eyes, Dark Matter can bring metal songs with a Gain setting around 9 to 3 o’clock.

In terms of level, just adjust it according to taste, I tried to experiment with using this Dark Matter Pedal with reduced distortion and volume of ten. For the voice switch knob, frankly, I don’t think it’s a big difference, both are suitable to be placed in any position, and I don’t really mind it. A bit for the Bass and Treble knobs. In my opinion, this control is very dynamic. A kind of active EQ, so you can start setting it in the middle, so you can adjust the formation of the EQ with the amp used, which must be remembered that this eq is quite responsive.
