Torche Band Tour with Meshuggah is The Last Tour

TORCHE Band vocalist and guitarist, Steve Brooks, recently announced the band’s upcoming tour with Meshuggah will be his last. This led fans to question whether TORCHE would continue after Steve Brooks’ departure, but it turns out the answer has been there all the time. TORCHE is done…, seriously?

In a post on Instagram a few weeks ago, a fan asked Steve Brooks to clarify if he was done with the band or if TORCHE was done as a whole.

Steve Brooks said, “We’re done. Just planning to reissue the print notes someday. Carry on.” Meanwhile, in another comment unearthed by The PRP, Steve Brooks offers a bit of insight into why TORCHE is calling it quits.

“I had adventures in this band that I wouldn’t have experienced otherwise and made many friends through touring. At this point, I was living in the Oregon Coast countryside and everyone was in Miami. It was a mission of traveling across the country to be crammed in a van for a month. , worrying about money to cover all these expenses, the possibility of theft, health/safety, and relying on others to take care of our responsibilities at home is too much. The only happy moment for me is on stage (30-80 min.) Meet us, if you can.”

Is this annoying? Sure, but there have been at least five records and a few smaller releases from TORCHE over the last nearly two decades that we can enjoy endlessly. Back in May, the TORCHE Band singer and guitarist had announced he would be leaving the band after one last opening tour this fall for Meshuggah. The band did not specify at the time whether they would continue with a new frontman in Steve Brooks’ absence. However, a few days after the release of the new single, It Never Began, two months of comments from Brooks’ personal Instagram circulating, confirmed that the band would be quitting after this tour.

As The PRP points out, in response to a fan wondering if the band would continue without him, Brooks wrote, “We’re done. Just planning to reissue the printed notes someday. Move.”

TORCHE is an American heavy metal band from Miami, Florida. The group was formed in 2004 by Steve Brooks (ex-Floor), Juan Montoya (ex-Floor, ex-Cavity, ex-Ed Matus Struggle), Jonathan Nuñez, and Rick Smith—who also played in several grindcore bands such as Shitstorm, Tyranny of Shaw, Adore Miridia, screamo band Tunes for Bears to Dance To, and punk band Post-Teens. So far, they have released five full-length studio albums, four EPs, two split albums, and three singles. They released their fifth full-length studio album, Admission, on July 12, 2019.

Steve Brooks says they don’t think of themselves as a metal band. Describing the band’s sound, Rick Smith said in an interview: “To me, it’s mostly a combination of everything we listen to collectively as a band. We take what we love from what we grow and use it as creatively as possible. different sounds happen naturally simply because we all have different musical backgrounds but share a lot of interests.” Regarding the tour, Steve Brooks said TORCHE is getting more young audiences.

In late 2008 Juan Montoya left the band, a move that is credited for musical differences. Steve Brooks said, “He’s an amazing guitarist, but we’re not on the same page… but Torche will continue as a 3-piece band”. In 2010, Juan Montoya joined former Bloodsimple members Bevan Davies and Kyle Sanders, and Charlie Suarez of the Sunday Driver to form a band called MonstrO. Steve Brooks revealed that Montoya’s departure was acrimonious, and involved physical violence between the two of them.

TORCHE band embarked on a tour with bands such as Dredg in April 2009, and another with the reunited Harvey Milk. The band opened for Coheed and Cambria on their headlining tour with Circa Survive in spring 2010. One of Torche’s earliest festival shows was at Incubate in 2006. After that, the band played at SXSW in 2008.

As alluded to above, in May 2022, founding vocalist Steve Brooks announced an upcoming tour supporting Meshuggah would be his last with the band, stating “We’re a few months away from the last tour I did with TORCHE, so lucky and far beyond what I expected. imagine.”

Then on September 17, 2022, it was confirmed in an earlier comment from a post on Steve Brooks’ personal Instagram that the band would not continue without him after their current tour ended.
