Blink-182 Release New Single in 2022 “Edging”
Blink-182 – After a few days after making attention on the internet to announce the return of Tom DeLonge to the band formation, Blink-182 finally released their new single entitled Edging. As if they didn’t want to wait any longer, this single was released on October 14, 2022.
This song also marks the return of Blink-182 to its full lineup. Now, the pop-punk trio consisting of Mark Hoppus, Tom DeLonge, and Travis Barker appears to play their respective roles. Edging is also the first material in 10 years without their signature new release, as well as the first material for Blink-182’s album, which is scheduled for release next year.
Travis Barker, who also produced Edging, said, “I wanted to imagine as a listener what I wanted to experience and at the same time as a band member what we wanted to make and say and most importantly how it would sound wise in production in 2022. .”
Meanwhile, Mark Hoppus enthusiastically said, “I’m very happy to be back in the studio creating new music and looking forward to a giant world tour.”
Despite the title—and the returning frontman’s penchant for obscenity—the song is surprisingly devoid of any sex jokes. Instead, the song offers a self-deprecating take on the dissolution of a relationship. Edging opens with Tom DeLonge singing the first verse: “I ain’t that cool, a little fucked in the head / They’ll be hangin’ me quickly when I’m back from the dead.”
In addition, Edging was also released with a music video directed by Cole Bennett. The music video features three Blink-182 members playing their music surrounded by people in bunny costumes at an amusement park. Behind the music video that seemed to be having fun, slowly the rabbits accompanying the band fell to the ground and were covered in blood. Blink-182 are officially back together again after they leaked the return of Tom DeLonge months earlier. The band formed by Tom DeLonge in 1992 lost its founding figure after leaving the band in 2015. To fill the formation void, Blink-182 kept moving and recruited Alkaline frontman, Matt Skiba, as a replacement for Tom DeLonge.
However, Tom DeLonge later hinted that he had rejoined the group before Hoppus said the original trio (topped with drummer Travis Barker) were in “a really good place”.
Along with the announcement of the single Edging—and confirmation of its place on their upcoming ninth album, the band revealed details of their biggest world tour to date. They will air more than 70 shows between March 2023 and February 2024, all set to hit America, Europe, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand. Between those dates will be the main task together at next year’s When We Were Young festival in Las Vegas.
Blink-182’s ninth album has not been officially announced. However, Tom DeLonge has described the new album as “the best album of our career.”
After the official reunion, Mark Hoppus explained that he found it difficult to keep Tom DeLonge’s return a secret. Speaking on Apple Music’s After School Radio show, he said: “I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. It was a burden to carry that secret for so long.”

Meanwhile, on October 13, 2022, Tom DeLonge shared a private message with Matt Skiba and thanked him for working with the band. “You have always been kind to me, not only in the media but also to other people. I really noticed… To be honest, this band wouldn’t even be here today if it weren’t for your ability to jump in and save the day,” he wrote.
Blink-182’s latest album, Nine, comes out in 2019. This is the second record featuring Matt Skiba, after 2016’s California. The last Blink-182 project to include contributions from Tom DeLonge was the EP Dogs Eating Dogs (2012).
Meanwhile, Mark Hoppus is also writing a book about his life, his career with Blink-182, and his experiences battling cancer. In July 2021, the bassist confirmed that he had been diagnosed with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma 4-A—the same type of cancer his mother had—and eventually recovered. That September, he confirmed to fans that he was officially cancer-free.
