Chris Shiflett Foo Fighters Release New Single Album “Long, Long Year”
Foo Fighters guitarist Chris Shiflett has shared a new solo single titled Long, Long Year. The new single was recorded in Nashville, Tennessee, United States. The song features bassist Jack Lawrence of The Raconteurs and drummer Julian Doro of Eagles of Death Metal and The Whigs, as well as a number of other musicians.
The new single was produced by Grammy winner Vance Powell. Previously, Vance Powell himself has worked with several names such as Jack White and his side project band The Dead Weather.
Talking about how the emotional and country tune came about, Chris Shiflett explained, “I spent a lot of time alone in my studio in LA during the first part of the lockdown just woodshed songs. The line ‘It’s been a long, long year’ rattled in my head for obvious reasons, but I framed it as a love song.”
The Foo Fighter guitarist said he recorded his first solo material since the 2019 album Hard Lessons, during his trip to Nashville in March 2021. Chris Shiflett Foo Fighters says he hasn’t traveled much after the COVID-19 lockdown. Because of that, he was a little nervous when he went there to work with a producer and the room was full of musicians he didn’t really know.
“In true Nashville fashion, we introduced ourselves and got to work, finishing the base track in a few hours,” he said.
He continued: “Vance was great and made me feel right at home, and the group of players he put together was right on target. The next day we did some overdubs and Sierra [Hull] came in and added mandolin vocals and harmonies on Long, Long Year and the songs started to come together.”
Behind that, the details of this potential new solo album are still unconfirmed. However, the single Long, Long Year marks the first music from the Foo Fighters members since the death of drummer Taylor Hawkins in March.
With this song, Chris Shiflett has blurred the line between genre and generation. He seems to be balancing his full-fledged band project with an ongoing solo career. With Long’s new single, Long Year, Chris Shiflett is turning a new page and building bridges between his native California and specifically Nashville, Tennessee.
The song begins with a pompous drum pattern and a moderate tempo. Long, Long Year has an arrangement filled with piano and steel pedals is a windowed, let-it-all-out song.
Behind it, Chris Shiflett himself is a guitarist who has long been a member of the Foo Fighters.
