The CURE Represent Wish Album Contains 40 Tracks

The Cure has announced the re-release of their 9th album, Wish. This reissue is special because it is intended for the 30th anniversary of the ninth studio album.

The album Wish was released in 1992. The recording of this album is very popular, as it also featured singles such as Friday I’m In Love, High, and A Letter To Elise. The three songs even reached Number One on the UK album charts and Number Two on the Billboard 200 in the United States during their appearance. Wish was The Cure’s most commercially successful album in the band’s career and has sold over 1.2 million copies.

Not just a plan, The Cure has confirmed on July 28, 2022, that the deluxe edition of the Wish album will be released on October 7, 2022, later via UMC/Fiction/Polydor. This was announced on The Cure’s official Twitter account on the same date and was given the full title: The Cure: Wish 30th Anniversary Deluxe Edition.

This reissue collection will contain tracks from the full original album. The songs themselves have been remastered by vocalists Robert Smith and Miles Showell at the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London, England. Besides, this album is also even more special because it adds 24 previously unreleased songs.

The 24 tracks include demos, instrumentals, and rare 12-inch mixes. There are also four tracks coming to CD and digital platforms for the first time. As such, the Wish Deluxe Edition album will consist of three CDs, with the third CD containing four tracks from Lost Wishes, a special mail order cassette in 1993 that was never available on CD or stream before.

In its press release, Wish appeared during demo sessions at The Live House in Cornwall and continues at Farmyard Studios in Cotswolds. In those two sessions, The Cure even performed 40 songs at once. Now, they can re-listen to recordings of songs from the 2022 album. Robert Smith, the vocalist for The Cure, says, “There’s a side to the album that I kind of forget, a very soft thing, quite a beautiful longing.”

“Trust is one of the best things we’ve ever done, in my opinion, played with great feeling, and To Wish Impossible Things is a beautiful and melancholy song … it could even be my favorite song on the record,” continued Smith.

Robert Smith went on to recall how the original album “sounded really good”, but said that he later noticed an error on the recording: “It was too late to do anything about it; the album is out, and we’re going around the world again. It really bothered me for a very long time.”

In this year’s remastering process, the vocalist was given the opportunity to correct the error. “It’s been 30 years, but finally my wish came true,” he commented.

Additionally, Robert Smith confirmed in 2018 that the deluxe edition of Wish was complete. However, during an interview with NME last May, he explained that he is still working on the project. Smith revealed, “There are so many demos of Simon [Gallup, the bassist] that never get past the demo stage and stay instrumental – purely because I can’t think of words for them. That’s very sad because some of them are so good!”

He continued: “They all came out as instrumentals, and I think there were about 36 unreleased songs that came out in the pack. It’s the same every time we do something. There’s always a lot of music, and most of it is Simon’s. I’m at a loss for words!”
