The Doobie Brothers Announce New Album: First Collaboration with Michael McDonald in 40 Years
The Doobie Brothers, the Legendary rock band is set to release a new album titled Walk This Road next summer, marking their first collaboration with Michael McDonald in four decades.
McDonald, who initially joined the band in 1975 as a temporary replacement for Tom Johnston, left the group in 1982 to pursue a solo career. This upcoming album will be McDonald’s first contribution to original material from The Doobie Brothers since their 1980 record One Step Closer.
The announcement was made in a Facebook post late last year, where the band expressed excitement about continuing their musical journey and sharing new music with fans.
“It’s been a long road since the early days, but we’re still working together, staying creative, and looking forward to bringing our music to you next year,” wrote The Doobie Brothers.
This highly anticipated album is sure to captivate fans of both the band and Michael McDonald, offering a blend of classic sounds and fresh creativity. Stay tuned for more updates as the release date approaches!
The upcoming album Walk This Road will feature 10 brand-new tracks, performed by Michael McDonald, Pat Simmons, and Tom Johnston. All three members were actively involved in the songwriting process, ensuring a blend of their distinct styles.

John McFee also contributed his exceptional musical talents, while John Shanks, who has previously worked with the band, returned as producer and co-writer for this project.
“We truly enjoyed the recording process and are incredibly proud of the result,” the band shared.
The album is set to be released in partnership with Warner Brothers/Rhino Records. The band expressed their deep gratitude for the unwavering support from fans and the privilege of continuing to create and perform the music they love.
Since departing the group in 1982, Michael McDonald has occasionally collaborated with The Doobie Brothers on studio projects, including the 2014 cover album Southbound. He fully rejoined the band in 2019, reigniting the creative synergy that fans have cherished for decades.
