Rush Reflect on Regrets Over Shortened Final Tour
R40 Live Tour – Nearly a decade after their final performance, Rush’s Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson have expressed regret over not extending their farewell tour to the U.K. and Europe.
Speaking to Classic Rock magazine, the two surviving members of the iconic Canadian progressive rock band reflected on the R40 Live tour, apologizing to fans across Britain and Europe who missed the chance to see them live.
“I really pushed hard to add more dates so we could play those extra shows, but I wasn’t successful,” Lee admitted. “I feel like I let our British and European fans down. It just felt wrong that we didn’t go, but Neil [Peart] was firm. He insisted on doing only thirty shows, and that was non-negotiable.”
The decision to cut the tour short left many fans disappointed, especially those outside North America who had long awaited the band’s return. However, the choice was largely influenced by Neil Peart’s health concerns and his desire to limit the physical strain of performing.
Despite their regrets, the R40 Live tour remains a monumental chapter in Rush’s history, marking the end of a remarkable career that spanned over four decades. For fans worldwide, the band’s legacy continues to resonate, even as they reflect on what could have been.
