TASCAM DP008 Review, a Portable Studio
TASCAM DP008 It has been more than 30 years since they introduced their product to the public, namely a multi-track product for recording on cassette media with a mixer feature in it. Until now, they continue to develop their products, from analog to digital development with the same operating concept.
One of their superior products is a pocket-sized digital recorder with a microphone in it. This tool is certainly a medium that is very simple to use, and carried anywhere is certainly a tool that can be used by any profession.
Now they have launched a new product, a portable recording device with a studio mixing feature and a built-in microphone (TASCAM DP008). It’s cool, isn’t it? We can take the recording equipment anywhere as well as mix audio anywhere, so a little finishing can be applied!
Design Brief
By maintaining its portable concept, this tool only requires four AA batteries with a duration of six hours. The data storage media of this tool uses SD or SDHC media, which of course will facilitate the transfer of WAV files to other devices.
The Tascam DP008 is also equipped with two USB ports which makes it easy to transfer files from any DAW such as Sonar, Cubase, or Protools. Interestingly, we can export and import files for individual tracks or the whole mix.
Despite all the compact things, this tool can’t be used to record more than two tracks simultaneously or with a live band concept. But for me, especially guitarists, a tool that is the size of A4 paper and of course can still be put in a gig bag, this is a very helpful tool for the creative process, however, this tool is a portable notepad for building a song outline.
The very small media causes this tool not to use faders to control each track, all of which are controlled by rotary knobs of 8 tracks. To avoid routing confusion, Tascam created a very simple assignment page
While maintaining a user-friendly concept like the previous products, in terms of audio results, several reviewers said that the audio results could be said to be very good, supported by high impedance input and free digital noise.

Conclusion
After I saw some reviews about TASCAM DP008, I feel that this tool is a recommendation for instrumentalists, especially guitarists and bassists who always want to record their ideas, record jamming results, or record gigs with two tracks without having to bring anything else.
Drum machine, tuner, amp simulator, bass synth, and effects are included in it. Again, this tool can be tucked into a guitar gig bag, so it can be forgotten until it’s needed.
