Ladytron Released New Single “Misery Remember Me”
Ladytron a synth quartet from Liverpool, on last November 11, 2022, released Misery Remember Me. This song is also the second single from the highly anticipated Time’s Arrow album. Ladytron also announced a series of tour dates on the west coast of the United States for this spring.
Misery Remember Me is a combination of several themes that inspired and shaped Time’s Arrow to a large extent. More specifically on a sense of optimism and hope overcoming dystopia (a community or society that is not desirable or seems scary).
Misery Remember Me was created as an ode to the human spirit against all odds. Ladytron further explains that we can keep trying and trying, but we can never escape who or what we are. And with that awareness, we must embrace each other while always allowing ourselves to dream. This is the life ethos summarized in Misery Remember Me.
In the upcoming Spring of 2023, Ladytron take the stage in Seattle, Portland, and San Francisco to introduce their album; Time’s Arrow. The appearance will follow a string of UK appearances previously announced in March 2023 in Glasgow, Liverpool, and London.
Misery Remember Me continues the series of singles after previously releasing the first single from Time’s Arrow, City of Angels, on October 14, 2022. The song was released with an accompanying music video, a haunting thriller starring Bianca Comparato from the Netflix sci-fi drama 3%.
City of Angels received media acclaim upon its release; some say it is an upbeat, dynamic electronic track with a rich industrial texture and utopian melody. Others say City of Angels is the epitome of the Ladytron we know and love, with motorized rhythms and glacial synths underpinning Helen Marnie and Mira Aroyo’s vocals.
Besides that, there are also those who give opinions; City Of Angels is a listening experience that takes listeners on a reality-bending adventure guided by a spectacle of interstellar sound, hypnotizing analog synths and celestial bells.
Others argue that the single is a trippy electro-psychic delight that updates ’60s compositions with modern tunes and electro flare. Others say the single’s melodic modulations, misty vocal layers, and generous retrofuturistic pop vibe define it as an era-defying single.
Ladytron is a British electronic band formed in Liverpool in 1999. The group consists of Helen Marnie (lead vocals, synthesizer), Mira Aroyo (vocal, synthesizer), Daniel Hunt (synthesizer, guitar, vocals), and Reuben Wu (synthesizer).
Liverpudlian producers and DJs Daniel Hunt and Reuben Wu met in the 1990s. Daniel Hunt is a member of the band Venini and Jules Verne. He also founded the indie record label Invicta Hi-Fi and a nightclub. Reuben Wu studied Industrial Design at Sheffield Hallam University and graduated in 1997. He became an industrial designer at Team Consulting Limited until finally working full-time with the band around 2002.
After forming the band under the moniker Ladytron, Daniel Hunt and Reuben Wu recorded their debut single entitled He Take Her to a Movie featuring guest vocalist Lisa Eriksson. This song was released in July 1999.
In the summer of 1999, Daniel Hunt and Reuben Wu met Scottish student Helen Marnie through various DJ gigs and Bulgarian student Mira Aroyo through a friend of theirs. Helen Marnie and Mira Aroyo joined Ladytron as vocalists and keyboardists. Helen Marnie studied music at the University of Liverpool where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in pop music in 1999. Meanwhile, Mira Aroyo is a postgraduate research geneticist in the Department of Biochemistry, University of Oxford.
The band’s name is taken from the Roxy Music song Ladytron. Ladytron describes their music genre as electronic pop. However, some music journalists have also described Ladytron’s work as synth-pop, electronic rock, post-punk, and new wave.
Ladytron has released six studio albums: 604 (2001), Light & Magic (2002), Witching Hour (2005), Velocifero (2008), Gravity the Seducer (2011), and Ladytron (2019) – the seventh, Time’s Arrow to be released in January 2023. They also put out the live album Live at London Astoria 16.07.08 in 2009 and the compilation album Best of 00–10 in 2011.
They have also produced remixes for artists such as David Gahan, Erasure, Goldfrapp, Apoptygma Berzerk, Placebo, Blondie, Gang of Four, Christina Aguilera, Nine Inch Nails, Bloc Party, Kings of Convenience, Soulwax and Róisín Murphy.
