FIDLAR Band Release New Single Album, FSU
FIDLAR Band, a Los Angeles punk and garage rock unit, is back with its first new piece of music in three years. The new single, entitled FSU, was released on August 26, 2022. The song follows their 2019 album Almost Free and is based on their upcoming EP that will be out in 2023.
Talking about their return to the music industry, the band said: “The new FIDLAR is leaning towards more extremes. Louder, louder, louder. Three chords and truth. Interesting and annoying. The lyrics are very thought-provoking. It speaks to the FIDIOT of the world.”
In this fierce song, vocalist Zac Carper sings: “I’ve been waking up, getting so fucked up / I’m so fucked up, trying to fuck shit up.”
The song features FIDLAR working with Grammy Award-winning producer Dave Sardy, whose credits include LCD Soundsystem and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The FSU single was also released with a music video directed by Ryan Baxley.
FSU is a very aggressive and very stupid song. It’s not a song that makes you think, but it’s a song that invites you all to mosh.
Vocalist Zac Carper told Consequence, “Like, we can’t get all Radiohead on everyone, you know what I’m saying? This is a mind-mouth song. It’s about getting screwed; It’s about damn.”
After a few years of being lost during the pandemic, they had the opportunity to witness a group of people abusing musical instruments in their playing. But, maybe that’s the kind of song that a lot of people need during a pandemic.
After considering many things because of the past pandemic situation, they have also prepared several things that are their targets for the future. As a result, they also thought that they had lost all words and replaced them with the word “damn!” played for three minutes. That is the material in their latest single.
For Zac Carper, that’s the hope. He brought FIDLAR back to being weirder than ever, dumber than ever, and completely obliterating any concert venues near you. He fully embraces the “lizard brain” impulses and prioritizes croaking over anything else.
Still in the vocalist’s statement to Consequence, “FIDLAR always had this thing where, no matter what we did, we could put out a bad album or put out a bad song, but we could play it live and it would explode. And it will happen if it’s at a festival or at Del Taco. Like, wherever we play, it’s going to explode.”
He was ready to give up the charade and just make a fuss. To do so, he looks to a new generation of aggressive musicians, those who seem to have unlocked the secrets of the lizard brain before him.
“These kids, they don’t care about punk or anything. They just love hip-hop and they do whatever they want. Like, why do you learn an instrument when you can just go out and scream? This is genius. They really know it,” said Zac Carper.
Zac Carper isn’t insulting this new wave of artists, he’s not playing the role of a gatekeeper and chastising young people because they “don’t care about punk.” Quite the opposite. Carper loves this shit. And he wasn’t wrong. What’s more punk rock than flipping a bird to traditionalist punk rock?

It was that energy, as well as the pandemic that robbed him of live shows, that led Carper to rediscover what he loves about FIDLAR. In the end, he decided to embrace what he found: embrace loudness, embrace stupidity, embrace FIDLAR. The result is what Carper affectionately calls the “fuckboy anthem.”
You could almost make the argument that this is a story of radical self-acceptance, about learning to love everything about yourself. But that sounds like a thinking man’s bullshit. And FIDLAR is not here to think. They’re here to screw things up.

The band’s name is an acronym for “Fuck It Dog, Life’s a Risk”—a skate spell acquired from singer Zac Carper’s former roommate. The band consists of Zac Carper (lead vocals, guitar, keyboards), Brandon Schwartzel (bass, backing vocals), and Max Kuehn (drums, percussion).
Initially, FIDLAR Band went by the name “Fuck The Clock”, as referenced in their song Cheap Beer. To date, the band has released three studio albums: FIDLAR (2013), Too (2015), and Almost Free (2019). The band is mostly known for short and fast songs related to parties and narcotics.
