Equipment for Recording Music at Home – After previously discussing the importance of understanding basic audio recording for a musician, surely the next question that arises is what should we learn first.
I’m sure there are many friends who want to understand basic audio recording with the aim of being able to produce our own works/songs. If that’s the goal, then this article can at least provide an overview of the things needed to produce work independently.
The Following Equipment for Recording Music at Home
Personal Computer/Laptop
As we know, this object called a computer is a multifunctional object that can complete various human jobs today, one of which is for music production. Because this is where all our work will be stored. If we don’t have a personal computer (PC), at least a laptop is a must if we really want to produce music. And for the record, the larger the memory (RAM) of a computer/laptop, the easier it will be for us to produce music.
Audio Interface
Audio Interface, or what we usually call a sound card is an object that functions to regulate incoming or outgoing signals from our laptop/computer. In simple terms, this thing works by converting signals from guitar/amp/mic/etc (which we call analog sound) into a digital form that can be understood by our computer. Usually referred to as AD/DA Converters (analog to digital/digital to analog).
DAW (Digital Audio Workstation)
Is software or application for recording, editing, and producing all things related to audio; music, human speech, or sound effects. This software is what you will always use to produce music. In addition to music recording, DAW software is also used for radio, TV, and other purposes that require quite complex audio needs.

Preamps, Effects, plugins, etc (optional)
Why do I call it optional, because this last thing is complementary if we really want to produce music. Objects such as preamp, effects, and plugins will indeed provide significant changes to our recording results. But if we want to be limited to making works, this last point can be considered optional. If we want to produce a work that we will publish and even sell, maybe this last point will be important.
Some of the points I mentioned above are essential equipment for Recording Music at Home, in the sense that if we don’t have one of the points above, we may encounter difficulties. What must be remembered here is that it does not mean that if we have all of the above, then we can match the quality of recordings made by professional musicians. Because the points above will be further divided into several types of variants, which we will probably discuss in the next article.
