If I Die Tomorrow is the latest single from Jack White. The single is also the latest preview for Jack White’s upcoming new album, Entering Heaven Alive, which is scheduled to be released on July 22, 2022, via his Third Man Records. In addition, this single was also released with the latest music video.
In the music video, If I Die Tomorrow, Jack White is depicted walking while pulling a coffin with a pale face. He walks through fields and forests filled with mysterious characters along his journey. Jack White stopped at an empty lot with someone digging the ground. Then the scene turned dark and he was surrounded by these mysterious characters. The music video for If I Die Tomorrow was directed by Brantley Gutierrez and produced by Dona Spangler. A bluish tone is used to color each image to replicate the color scheme Jack White uses in this special cycle on his new album.
The music video is packaged following a number of questions that appear in the lyrics of the song. The question is partly described in the lyrics: “If I die tomorrow / Will you let me know I left in peace?” and “So if I die tomorrow / Will you give them all the love they lent to me?”
Entering Heaven Alive is the follow-up to her fourth album, Fear Of The Dawn, which was released in April. This news follows an earlier announcement in November last year that Jack White would be releasing two consecutive albums in 2022. Singles for his previous album Fear Of The Dawn include Taking Me Back, Hi-De-Ho, and Queen Of. The Bees.
Musically, the single If I Die Tomorrow is mostly a solemn country ballad. Uniquely, this song is packaged in classic Jack White fashion and cut with some weird and surreal guitar elements.
Regarding the guitar element that accompanies the song, the song If I Die Tomorrow has proven the song packaging with a relaxed and soft sonic direction for the Entering Heaven Alive album. Jack White relied on minor-driven acoustic guitar progressions embellished with sumptuous stun spreads and uniquely decorative melodies.
A guitar solo is also included in this song which further showcases the softer and quieter side of Jack White’s guitar playing. Tapping a clean twang, this White Stripes persona leans heavily on the descending arpeggios motif, executed with some subdued pull-offs.
To Guitar World, Jack White said he had reflected as he established the sonic differences between his second album this year, Entering Heaven Alive, and his first album of the year, Fear Of The Dawn. He also revealed that “heavy” things are indeed reserved for release first
“It was the first time I was like, ‘Wow, this song is so heavy and this song is so soft and melancholy. They can’t co-exist on one record.’ On my computer, I have softer songs on one playlist, and harder songs on another. So it’s rather simple—the songs are fragmented,” said Jack White.
Because of these unique guitar elements, we shouldn’t be surprised and imagine that White’s crazy new Fender Jazzmaster playing was used to execute Jack White’s unique songs on the album Entering Heaven Alive. Jack White’s Fenders are even known to have been equipped with an Electro-Harmonix Pitch Fork pitch-shifter circuit.
Behind that, Jack White himself is in the midst of the 2nd leg of his Mega Supply Chain Issues tour, which will tour European cities until the end of July. The tour kicked off last April for the first leg touring several North American cities.
