White Lung Band Release 5th Album PREMONITION
White Lung Band, The Canadian punk rock has officially announced their fifth and final album, Premonition. The band formed in 2006 will release a follow-up to their 2016 album, Paradise. The fifth album is scheduled to be released on December 2 through Domino Records Co.
Premonition is an album about “birth and rebirth.” The album comes after they had provided an accidental five-year hiatus and a “transformative period” within the punk rock group.
Initially, White Lung Band started working on the project in their hometown of Vancouver in 2017. The album was done just before vocalist Mish Barber-Way found out that she was pregnant with her first child. After getting ready to heat up the engine again, the world is hit by the COVID pandemic, just like any other baby. Those are some things that seem to make them forced to give a long pause.
In a recent interview posted on White Lung’s official website, Mish Barber-Way opened up about her pregnancy, calm period, and experience of motherhood. Those are the things that have inspired the upcoming album White Lung. She explained, “The first three songs were written, then I found out I was pregnant, and Premonition was about it.”
The latest single for this fifth album, Date Night, finds vocalist Mish Barber-Way dating a drunk God while driving a Cadillac around LA. Regarding how the single came about, the vocalist said, “I think I was disturbed by the state of the world, and with Los Angeles and my life there.”
“I felt like a part of my life was coming to an end, so I projected those feelings of anger and fear onto the city of LA because it was safe and comfortable to live in your anger rather than be a self-reflection.”
Barber-Way continues: “I imagine driving around Hollywood with God like we’re in a flying car at the end of Grease and just asking him what he thinks about the world. God will get drunk and laugh and smoke and tell me how funny we all are and how we screw things up. And, of course, God, it was hot.”
Meanwhile, the second single as a preview for their fifth album is Tomorrow. This single was written when the vocalist found out that she was pregnant. He said, “There is a very serious understanding that life will be different forever and I am relieved to welcome the change.”
Both singles come with a music video directed by Justin Gradin. In addition to directing the music video, Justin Gradin also created the cover artwork for this Premonition album. Behind it, White Lung Band apparently has decided to end their musical journey. Regarding their decision to end the band at this point, White Lung said: “We recorded this album four years ago and in that time every single one of our lives has grown and changed so much. We feel like this record is the perfect ending point and we’re excited that the songs are finally coming out.”

White Lung is a punk rock band from Canada. The band consists of Mish Barber-Way (vocals), Kenneth William (guitar), and Anne-Marie Vassiliou (drums). The trio has released two albums on Deranged Records and their two most recent albums on Domino Recording Company.
Exclaim!—Canadian music and entertainment magazine—named the band’s first full-length album, It’s the Evil (2010), as the best punk album of 2010. The band was nominated for “Punk/Hardcore Artist/Group of the Year” in the Canadian Music Week Indie Awards 2011. Subsequently, their second album, Sorry, was released in May 2012 to critical acclaim from Spin, Pitchfork, Magnet, Exclaim!, and Rolling Stone. White Lung released their third studio album, Deep Fantasy in June 2014 through Domino Recording Company. This resulted in increased exposure and the band started playing in a larger venue. In 2015, the band announced that Lindsey Troy of Deap Vally had joined as a bass player during the White Lung tour.
The band’s fourth album, Paradise, was released in May 2016. Unlike previous records, this album has more songs centered on the story of vocalist Mish Barber-Way, who discovered that Live the Lood Songs had taken on new meaning when he was on stage. They also conjure up a new kind of anger in their fourth album.
In September 2022, White Lung then announced they would disband after releasing their fifth and final album, Premonition, in December 2022.
