Randall RG13 Preamp Guitar Review
Randall RG13 is a name that has carved out a reputation as a good amp maker and is now releasing a product in the form of a solid-state preamp. Like any other preamp on the market; often claim that the “product” can work like a real amp (head amp). But what’s interesting about this RG13 Randall is that it can function like a real amp; which is able to ring the cabinet without the need for the help of a power amp first.
This preamp has three channels; clean, crunch, and lead. All of which use the same EQ (not independent). With three output options provided; Balanced, unbalanced, and speaker out. Users find it easy to use this object in a variety of situations. The balanced output allows us to directly connect our sound to the mixer/ D.I without fear of our sound becoming thin and sharp because there is already a cabinet simulator from Randall RG13 itself. While the speaker out allows users to use the cabinet without having to go through the preamp first, which is very useful if the amp in the venue crashes. While the unbalanced output can be used if the user wants to use the power from an existing amp or directly plug it into the input head of an existing amp on stage.

In terms of sound, I personally think Randall RG13 is able to accommodate us to get sound up to a “safe” level. Because somehow this preamp is a little less “organic” when compared to the sound of a real amp especially tube amps. However, in terms of ease of use and mobility, this preamp deserves to be on the list.
