The Gorillaz universe is presented in music videos, interviews, comic strips, and short cartoons. Gorillaz music often features collaborations with featured artists, with Damon Albarn the only permanent music contributor.

With Gorillaz, Damon Albarn departs from Britpop as distinct from his band Blur, exploring various musical styles including hip hop, electronic music, and world music through a “postmodern eccentric” approach. The band’s 2001 debut album Gorillaz, featuring dub, Latin and punk influences, went triple platinum in the UK and double platinum in Europe, with sales boosted by the success of Clint Eastwood’s lead single. Their second studio album, Demon Days (2005), went six times platinum in the UK and double platinum in the US and spawned the successful lead single Feel Good Inc.

To date, Gorillaz Band has scored at least seven albums, including Gorillaz (2001), Demon Days (2005), Plastic Beach (2010), The Fall (2010), Humanz (2017), The Now Now (2018), Song Machine, Season One: Strange Timez (2020). Cracker Island is a Gorillaz New album, which will be released in 2023.
