Boston Manor Band, Released New Album Datura and Single Passenger
Boston Manor Band, a British rock unit from Blackpool, has officially released a new single titled Passenger. This single is a continuation of the single Foxglove which was released last April. In addition to the release of this new single, Boston Manor has also announced its new album, Datura.
Datura album will be Boston Manor’s fourth album, which is scheduled to be released on October 14, 2022, via SharpTone. This album will follow their 2021 album, Desperate Times Desperate Pleasures. The Datura album itself was recorded with Larry Hibbitt of Hundred Reasons who said the Desperate Times album Desperate Pleasures was a good jumping-off point on the album.
“We wanted to keep doing more of it. It felt a lot smoother – we wanted fewer songs so we could be more intentional,” says Boston Manor band guitarist Mike Cunniff.
While frontman Henry Cox added, “I want people to connect with the theme of this album. Not too specific to me, although I hope they appreciate the vulnerability in it, with the view that they can project they have their own life story in it.”
“At its core, this is an album about someone struggling to take control of their life and lift themselves up. I think a lot of people can relate to that, especially in the times we live in today. So as much as I write about my problems, I hope people can find solace in them.”
Before the Datura album arrives, you can listen to the new single Passenger which Mike Cuniff calls “One of our favorite songs on the record.”
In a statement, Boston Manor said, “We’ve been playing it in rehearsal a bit and it sounds really good live. It’s a very simple approach, even to write it. We didn’t want to put too much into this song, which made us feel a little vulnerable and naked on stage, when not too much was going on. It was the last song we wrote and recorded as notes, the last piece of the puzzle.”
The single Passenger introduces the nighttime aesthetic of the album. It’s dark and gloomy just the way Boston Manor can be. But, of course, don’t forget about the intense and uncontrollable explosion of the anthemic chorus for which the band is known. It is a song that is hopeful and energetic but also on the verge of emotional collapse.
This single has also been released along with the music video which shows them standing up for their respective positions and performing this hard song well. The music video, directed by Zak Pinchin, was released along with the single, on July 7, 2022.
Meanwhile, the Datura album will contain seven songs. Check out the following Datura album tracklist.
- Datura (dusk)
- Floodlights On The Square
- Foxglove
- Passenger
- Crocus
- Shelter From The Rain
- Inertia
Towards the end of April, Boston Manor released their first single of the year, Foxglove. This single was released when the quintet from Blackpool was increasingly recognized and popular in the United States.
Foxglove is a very moody song with frontman Henry Cox’s charisma shining through its delivery. The breakdowns are delicious and have sharp synth sounds that will grab us all and have us hitting the replays before you even know what’s going on. This song has that old-school vibe from You Me At Six, so if you’re missing the band’s signature sound, maybe Boston Manor will fill that void in your life!
When detailing where it came from, vocalist Henry Cox mentions the story behind this Foxglove: “We’re in a cold spot in our writing when we’re all achieving the same thing. We can get to the root of the idea pretty quickly. This song is a bit dizzy with a strange plot. It’s about losing your grip on things and starting to feel the train off the tracks. The video was so much fun to shoot, it lasted several nights all over the North West of England, hanging out in the box truck with the camera strapped to me.”
