Tone-wise, the SD-1 isn’t that much different from a tube screamer. The knobs provided are also similar to the Tube Screamer; Drives, Levels, and Tones. Maybe the SD-1 has a slightly rougher tone than the Tube Screamer. And also SD-1 is widely used as a booster for overdrive amps (channel gain). We probably won’t find a more economical choice than the SD-1 for the booster amps we use.

Big names like Zakk Wylde apparently used this effect for several years before finally having their own signature model.

The drawback of this effect is “noise”, SD-1 is indeed more noise when compared to the boutique effect. But for options in terms of price and tone effects, it’s worth a try.
