Fontaines DC Share Music Video, The Couple Across The Way
Fontaines DC The Irish post-punk unit has released the music video for their latest single, The Couple Across The Way. The music video was released on September 21, 2022. The single The Couple Across The Way is taken from their new album, Skinty Fia which debuted at Number One on the UK and Irish Official Albums Charts.
The music video for The Couple Across The Way was directed by Polocho. The concept of the music video itself was produced by the vocalist Grian Chatten. The music video features the vocalist playing the accordion and singing on the windowsill. Meanwhile, the camera pans between a couple arguing and a younger couple falling in love.
Describing the track and the music video, vocalist Grian Chatten says, “I live in a tiny little flat in North London with my boyfriend and there’s a ‘Hitchcock-esque’ view of the elderly couple across from us. They had a fiery argument that sent the pigeons flying, and after each pair would come out onto the little balcony he had and just breathe for about 10 minutes.”
“I can’t help but imagine it as a reflection of myself and my boyfriend in the years to come, and of ourselves as a reflection of a younger, happier version of them.”
Fontaine DC released their third album Skinty Fia last April. They’ve been touring since then, with sets at Glastonbury and more ahead of their upcoming major UK and Ireland tours. On September 14, 2022, Fontaines D.C. made an appearance on their latest US television show, which followed a closer rendition of Skinty Fia, as well as Nabokov on the program Late Night With Seth Meyers earlier this year and performed three songs during an appearance on CBS Saturday Morning.
After their current US tour concludes in Boston on October 6, 2022, their UK and Ireland tour will then begin at Hull’s Bonus Arena on November 7, 2022. They have set a schedule that is held in several cities such as Manchester, London, Glasgow, and Dublin.
Last April, Fontaines DC shared a single titled Roman Holiday. The song is the fourth material to be lifted from the Irish band’s new album, Skinty Fia, which was released on 22 April 2022 through Partisan Records. This single was released to follow several previous singles such as I Love You, Jackie Down The Line, and the album’s title track, Skinty Fia.
The single Roman Holiday features vocalist Grian Chatten reflecting on his experience moving to London and what it was like to embrace the city as an Irishman.
“Roman Holiday makes me think of the wide streets of North London in the summer and the urge to find it at night. The thrill of being a bunch of Irish people in London with a bit of a secret language and my first flat with my girlfriend,” Grian Chatten said of the song.
The single also sees the band delve further into the album’s touching themes around identity and belonging, particularly those present as immigrants, with lyrics celebrating the friendships found in the Irish community and the friends the band has found for themselves. themselves.
Roman Holiday’s music video was released in early June, two months after they released the track as a single from their new album. In the music video, Fontaines D.C. featuring those who remade a 1970s-era heist film they starred in themselves.
In this music video directed by Sam Taylor, Fontaines D.C. took on new nicknames, such as Grian Chatten’s vocalist Marty “Stir” Crazy and Conor Curley’s guitarist David Leatherman. Together, the group holds a blindfolded and tied teddy bear named Andy – aka Randy hostage in the trunk of a car. They are said to have demanded a ransom of “500 thousand euros without a token” to release the bean.

Fontaine DC is an Irish post-punk band formed in Dublin in 2017. The band consists of Grian Chatten (vocals), Carlos O’Connell (guitar), Conor Curley (guitar), Conor Deegan III (bass), and Tom Coll (drums).
After meeting while attending music college, and bonding over a shared love of poetry, the band began releasing singles and performing live regularly, signing to Partisan Records in 2018. The band’s debut album, Dogrel, was released in April 2019 to widespread circulation. It was listed as “Album of the Year” on the Rough Trade record store website, was voted “Album of the Year” by presenters on BBC Radio 6 Music, and was nominated for the Mercury Prize and the Choice Music Prize.
The band’s second studio album, A Hero’s Death, was written and recorded amid extensive touring to debut and was released in July 2020. A Hero’s Death was subsequently nominated for “Best Rock Album” at the 2021 Grammy Awards. Their third album Skinty Fia, was released in April 2022. Through this album, Fontaines DC also officially became the first Irish band to reach number one on the UK Albums Chart and Irish Albums Chart.
