Banks Arcade with New Album, FUTURE LOVERS
Banks Arcade – The metalcore unit from two countries, Australia and New Zealand, is back with some news. The band has officially released details of their new album entitled Future Lovers which was released on July 29, 2022, via UNFD. In this new album, Banks Arcade has worked hard and tried hard to present his best works.
Vocalist Joshua O’Donnel explained how the new Banks Arcade album came about, “The pandemic has definitely left a ‘hopeless’ space. For me, I’ve been very busy for the last five years, working hard to try and make this music work, and this finally frees up time to not have to go to work and focus. Basically, I went back to New Zealand to my family home where everything was comfortable and fun, I was out in nature in New Zealand and could just wake up every day and write.”
Leaving out what’s coming next, the vocalist continued: “The kind of releases that Future Lovers will follow is where we can really expand and make it something bigger. This is just the opening.”
In addition, Banks Arcade also released a new single titled Be Someone. The new single features them pulling metalcore and electronica in a more energetic soundscape. The single was also released with a music video directed by Connor Pritchard. Check out the Be Someone music video which was officially released on May 24, 2022.

After being officially released on July 29, 2022, Wall of Sound made a review for the album. In its review, this site mentions that Banks Arcade has provided a breath of fresh air and writes that Banks Arcade is a new generation in Australia, including New Zealand. The band has proven itself to sound more unique and do something “out of the box”. Banks Arcade delivers a great shock and brings something a little different to its materials on the new Future Lovers album.
The album’s title track, Future Lovers, features an ambient, synthy intro with soulful vocals and beautiful piano. You can tell from this one-minute and thirty-second song that you’re in for something different with this album. Then a track called Freaks takes the same musical theme and builds on it with incredible heavy instruments. Vocalist Joshua O’Donnell uses an excellent rap/heavy vocal/clean vocal hybrid throughout many of his songs, and when he first heard it, it had a cool, dark vibe to it.
His pace escalated with the track Fake Your Death, which is one (of many) highlights on this album. This track has dance verses, a fun chorus that will make the audience sing, and a fantastic breakdown. The bass from Harlan Allan-Jones in the breakdown is great! I can’t wait to dance to this one live. While the Be Someone track returns to the electronic world, the guitar and bass are kicking some of the time. The guitar tone in this song is amazing and reminiscent of the mid-2000s era.
Future Lovers is an album that takes on a lot of different influences and ideas. Somehow they managed to blend it cohesively. Whether they’re doing all electronics or leaning more towards metalcore—Banks Arcade manages to get all the elements into their sound.
