Will Of The People, The New Single Album from Muse
Muse is back with a new hit song. The new song is entitled “Will Of The People” which will also be included in Muse’s ninth album with the same title and will be released on August 26 via Warner Records. This album is a follow-up to their previous album, Simulation Theory (2018).
Muse had previously released two previews of their upcoming album. Among them are the single Compliance and one more is this new song, Will Of The People. Meanwhile, the single Will Of The People was also released along with an animated music video that looks chaotic but dramatic. Muse’s music video, Will Of The People, was directed by award-winning animator and producer Tom Teller.
Regarding this new song, Muse vocalist and guitarist Matt Bellamy said all of this has to do with fiction. He explained in his press release: “Will Of The People is [a] fictional story set in the metaverse, on a fictional planet, ruled by a fictional authoritarian state, run by fictional algorithms, created by fictional databases, which run fiction banks. , which mints a fictional currency, which controls a fictional population, occupies a fictional city, which contains fictional apartments, where a fictional man, wakes up one day and thinks ‘to hell with this.”
Regarding the song, which is filled with fiction here and there, one of the lyrics reads: “Free your sons and unlock your daughters,” the frontman sings over zipping guitars. “We’ll throw the baby out with the bathwater / With every second our anger increases / We’re gonna smash our nation to pieces.”
The Will Of The People album was recorded in London and Los Angeles. The songs are self-produced by Muse. A statement from Warner Records stated that the album was not of a “singular genre.” The single Will of the People was described as a “glam rocker” and Kill or Be Killed was described as “industrial color.”
In addition, Matt Bellamy says that science is inspired by the increasing instability and uncertainty that exists in this world, because of nature and Western empires that have kept people lulled for so long, and so threatened. He also mentions that Will the People is “self-navigation through fear”.
The vocalist also stated that the album’s non-single genre was in part influenced by their label’s recent requests for them to release a biggest hits album, which the band later turned down. Because of this, the band decided to make an album that combines various sounds from their previous albums.
Last month, Matt Bellamy shared more details about his long-awaited ninth album. In an interview, the Muse frontman said that his new album will be the biggest hits album with new songs. Matt Bellamy said the album was written in part in response to their record label, which wanted the band to release a ‘best of compilation.
“We’re getting to a point where there’s talk of possibly making a biggest hits album, and we’re not really supportive of doing that. So it’s almost like we’ve set a record which is the biggest hits album – new songs. This means this album will probably have metal tracks on it and it could be the best metal track we’ve ever made. Or there’s a kind of soft ballad, a love song and it’s probably the best love ballad we’ve ever made, and so on,” explained Matt Bellamy.
“This is a montage at its best from Muse. It’s a fresh take on all kinds of genres we’ve touched on in the past.”
In addition, Muse will also return to the tour in October for a series of theater dates across North America and Europe. The show will follow summer festival performances such as Rock Am Ring, Isle Of Wight Festival, and Mad Cool.
