The Killers Band Release New Single Album “BOY”

The Killers Band officially released its newest song, Boy, on August 5, 2022. This single is the band’s first new single since their last album, Pressure Machine, which was released in 2021. The single Boy debuted at the Mad Cool music festival last July in Madrid, Spain, and saw the return of The Killers’ anthemic songwriting style.

The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers said the song was written before the Pressure Machine album, but the themes explored in the song’s lyrics led him to write the album. Brandon Flowers said of the song, “This is the first song written after we had to cancel the Imploding The Mirage tour due to the pandemic.

“I recently moved back to Utah and started traveling to Nephi, where I grew up. I discovered that the place I really wanted to avoid at the age of 16 now is a place I can’t stop coming back to,” said Brandon Flowers.

“I have a son who is close to my age at that time in my life. With ‘boy’, I wanted to reach out and tell myself—and my sons—not to think too much about it. And to look for the “white arrow” in their life. For me now, the white arrows are my wife, my children, my song, and my stage.”

Boy’s lyrics say: “Don’t overthink it, boy/ White arrows will break The black night / Don’t overthink it, boy.”

Song Boy contains tracks from every The Killers album to date. Starting from the hi-hats from drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr. reminiscent of Hot Fuss, Dave Keuning’s expressive guitar line that evokes the heart rock of Battle Born, and Brandon Flowers’ personally symbolic lyrics feel rightly fitting into the stories of Pressure Machine.

But the biggest comparison is without a doubt the band’s third album, Day & Age, which features shimmering synths, shout-along, heartwarming choruses, and philosophical confusion overlaid with dance beats.

Speaking to NME before their set at the Mad Cool festival, Brandon Flowers explained more about the song’s origins. “We’ve teased him a bit,” he told NME. “It was a song that brought me back home and was kind of the impetus for writing [the 2021 album] Pressure Machine. What’s interesting is that it was not recorded successfully—but its absence is not a reflection of the quality of the song. It was an aesthetic decision to keep it a secret.”

He continued: “There is optimism for that. It was in the dust, in the gutter, and he saw the stars. It writes on more new wave vehicles.”

Brandon Flowers also revealed that the band is working on their next album with material to be released later this year.

“We just had a few days off and Stuart [Price, producer] came and visited us on the road. We send stuff back and forth, and ideas. I also spoke to Shawn Everett [producer], and was happy to have that combo,” he told NME.

He added: “You will hear the single of the year. The full record will probably be released early next year, but there will definitely be more releases this year.”

Meanwhile, when The Killers Band spoke to NME for a cover story for Big Read last year, drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr. said the band had begun work on a new, “heavier” album, which would see all four members reunite.

Lead guitarist Dave Keuning did not appear on Imploding the Mirage in 2020. Bassist Mark Stoermer did not attend the recording sessions for the album Pressure Machine.

“It’s a bit more canyon rock,” Flowers said of the songs they were working on for their next record.

“Perhaps the slightly more traditional The Killers, I think.” added Ronnie Vannucci Jr, expecting something “a little heavier and louder” than their previous album, Pressure Machine. He continued, “I can see we’re heading in that direction: something a little more energetic.”

The Killers Band is an American rock band formed in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States, in 2001 by Brandon Flowers (vocals, keyboards, bass) and Dave Keuning (lead guitar, backing vocals). After going through a number of short-term bass players and drummers in their early days, both Mark Stoermer (bass, rhythm guitar, backing vocals) and Ronnie Vannucci Jr. (drums, percussion) joined the band in 2002. The band’s name is derived from the logo on the fictional band’s bass drum depicted in the music video for the band New Order’s song Crystal.

The Killers Band have released seven studio albums, each of which reached the top positions on the UK Albums Chart: Hot Fuss (2004), Sam’s Town (2006), Day & Age (2008), Battle Born (2012), Wonderful Wonderful (2017) , Imploding the Mirage (2020), and Pressure Machine (2021). They have also released a B-Side and rarities compilation, Sawdust (2007); live album, Live from the Royal Albert Hall (2009); most hits album, Direct Hits (2013); and the Christmas compilation, Don’t Waste Your Wishes (2016).
