Roli Seaboard Block Review – This time we will discuss another product that is no less unique, namely ROLI Seaboard Block. Why do I say it is no less unique, because even though it looks like a keyboard at first glance, this thing gives a new dimension that is different from other keyboards. Yup, this object features “5-dimensional” touch features, namely Strike, Glide, Slide, Press and Lift.
- Strike, is like pressing the keyboard but with more dynamics
- Press, gives us an after-touch sound or allows us to produce another sound when the initial sound we used ends
- Glide will accommodate us to adjust what is called “Glissando” in musical terms or give vibrato to notes
- Slide, allows us to adjust parameters as our finger moves up or down
- Lift, is a feature that allows us to bring out another sound when we lift our finger
Yes, more or less those are the features presented by this tiny thing. Why do I say tiny, because each unit consists of 2-octave. But what’s interesting is that we can increase the number of keys by adding one ROLI Seaboard block as many units as we need.
This object which has dimensions of 11 inches long and 5.5 inches wide can also be connected to several other electronic devices such as smartphones and laptops / PCs through the default application from ROLI Seaboard itself. And as we know, all things that are connected to the digital world will certainly provide us with a wide selection of sound features. We can also use this object as a keyboard controller in general when we connect it to a PC. But the drawback when we do this is the loss of the “5-dimensional” feature that was at the beginning
So, the concept of this object is to accommodate the user to produce a sound that is very different while producing the same sound feel as other musical instruments. Because indeed the “5-dimensional” feature will really help pianists/keyboardists to imitate other musical instruments that previously could not be done by conventional keyboards.

Should We Have Roli Seaboard Block?
If you are a pianist/keyboardist or musician who enjoys experimenting with many sounds and looking for something new, it is recommended that you have at least two ROLI Seaboard Blocks, because this thing doesn’t have a lot of octaves. And keep in mind, this thing seems to be intended for live performance, although it can be used for recording (in several ways).
This thing will be quite challenging to play at first. Because the accuracy of our fingers will greatly affect the sound produced, especially to maximize the “5-dimensional” feature in this object.
