Grey Daze Released New Album ” Phoenix”

Some time ago Grey Daze reported that they would continue Amends, the album released in 2020 with a new album, The Phoenix. The band, which started with Chester Bennington who is also the vocalist of the band Linkin Park, will release a collection of 10 new songs on 17 June.

Sean Dowdell, who is the songwriter and drummer for Grey Daze, explained that the Amends album was more emotional and reflective. According to Sean, Grey Daze felt sad while writing and working on this album. After they had been separated a few years since Chester Bennington’s death, they began to understand what they were going through. Those in Grey Daze are at different stages of grief after going through many shocks and sorrows. Grey Daze wants to return to gratitude. So they make The Phoenix album as a celebration of Chester Bennington as a friend, his talent, and his music. The album is also expected to capture Chester’s anxiety and energy that people fall in love with. It’s much more aggressive. Sean Dowdell also said if we like and enjoy the screams of Chester Bennington in his previous works, of course, we will like what is presented in The Phoenix.

In addition to the announcement of the new album, Grey Daze also released a new single Saturation (Strange Love) to coincide with the announcement. According to Sean also this song will surprise many people because this song returns to the core of Chester Bennington. Where many people like him for his unique ability to be able to scream according to the key. This song will bring listeners back to all the things that Chester has brought before as well as feeling the emotions that Chester spilled.

A band is a post-grunge unit formed by the late Chester Bennington in 1993 with Steve Mitchell, Jonathan Krause, Chester, and Sean Dowdell.

Chester, who left the band in 1998 and joined Linkin Park a year later, had spawned several releases with Grey Daze, namely Demo (1993), Wake Me (1994), and …No Sun Today (1997).

After several personnel changes, Grey Daze, which since 1995 has been run by Sean Dowdell, Chester Bennington, Bobby Bernish, and Mace Beyers, disbanded in 1998. Sean Dowdell and Bobby Bernish then formed the band Waterface with vocalist Jodi Wendt and bassist Dave Sardegna.

The band was supposed to hold a reunion show with Chester Bennington in 2002 to raise money for Bobby Bernish’s family, who was struggling to pay Bobby’s medical bills due to his illness. However, the show had to be canceled, because Linkin Park’s management at that time did not give Chester permission regarding a schedule that collided with the recording process for the Meteora album.

Several decades later, they have now decided to return to music. They took the name of Jaime Bennington, son of Chester, to also fill in some parts of the vocals that had previously been filled by his father. Together with Jaime, Grey Daze has just launched a single titled Soul Song.

Grey Daze was given permission by Chester Bennington’s wife, Talinda, to continue working on the project provided they did not change Chester’s voice. Grey Daze went on to reach out to former Warner Bros. executives. Records Tom Whalley to release the album through his music label Loma Vista Recordings.

Sean Dowdell once said that Grey Daze kept the integrity and intent of all vocals intact from the very beginning. Grey Daze actually rewrote all the music for each eb\nsong from the ground up. They also worked on Chester Bennington’s vocals for two months before working on the music. Instrumental writing took about a year and a half and recordings took almost another year and a half. In addition to Chester Bennington’s original vocals from Wake Me and …No Sun Today, a previously unreleased alternative take was
also used on the song. They worked at Salt Mine Studios and NRG Recording Studios with some of Chester Bennington’s musician friends or other artists including Ryan Shuck (Julien-K), Marcos Curiel (P.O.D.), Jaime Bennington (Chester’s son), Chris Traynor (Bush), Brian “Head Welch and James “Munky” Shaffer (Korn), LP (Laura Pergolizzi), Carston Dowdell and Brennen Brochard (Sean’s son), Heidi Gadd, Carah Faye (Shiny Toy Guns), Jasen Rauch (Breaking Benjamin, Love, and Death, former Red) and Pete Nappi (Ocean Park Standoff). They also have Esjay Jones and Lucas D’Angelo (Betraying the Martyrs) on the production team.

On June 9, 2019, Grey Daze confirmed that they had completed the project and in August they had mixed the album. Draven Bennington was also asked to sing on the album but declined as it was difficult for him to hear his father’s voice at the time.
