Jimmy Page Guitar : 1959 Les Paul Standard
The Les Paul Standard’s original designers and manufactures including Les Paul Himself would no doubt have been shocked by veneration heaped on the guitar. Upon its introduction in the early fifties, it was received with only moderate enthusiasm. But with the coming of the second generation of rock guitarists, the reputation of sunburst Les Pauls built between 1958 and 1960 skyrocketed.
Besides Page, other greats who have played these guitar include Peter Green, Dickey Betts, Ace Frehley, and Keith Richards. With the guitar’s increase in desirability came a concomitant rise in price on the vintage guitar market. In 1976, one could cruise into the old Dan Armstrong shop in New York’s Greenwich Village and stroll out with a tiger striped 1959 Les Paul for $750.
Around April 1969, page paid Joe Walsh just $500 for the classic 1959 standard(Jimmy Page guitar). Today, similar instruments refularly fetch sums of six figures.
